Farmstand Opening Day is May 4th!

farmstand spring plantsOpening Day at the Farmstand is almost here!! It’s hard to believe, but this is our 10th season at Langwater and we’re excited to kick it off!

We’ve got beds of spring greens and early roots that we’re itching to harvest, plus all of the plants we’ve been growing in the greenhouse are ready to make their debut. If you’re ready to get into your garden, we’ll have some plants for you: herbs of all kinds, spring Broccoli, greens, and few Tomatoes too. More Tomatoes will be ready later into May, when the weather’s warmer.

There’ll be Blueberry, Honey Walnut & Savory pies choose from. And our friends at Jordan Brothers will be on hand from 9-1 on Saturday with fresh fish & seafood.

If you purchased a Farmstand CSA debit card this winter, they’ll be ready for pickup (& use!) starting Opening Day. And if you didn’t sign up for your Farmstand CSA (or Full Season CSA), there’s still time! Pickups for the Full Season CSA (Whole & Half shares) start the week of May 20th.

Seeding & Sowing in the Greenhouse & in the Field

purple microsWe fired up our big greenhouse back in February and have been busy in there ever since. These days it is bursting with thousands of baby plants, almost ready to head out into the field, or to the Farmstand and then out into your garden.

In the field, spring has definitely sprung. Recent spring field chores have included pruning our Raspberries, patching holes Liz driving transplanterin our deer fence, liberating our Strawberries from their winter blankets of straw mulch, and of course, prepping our fields to be ready for all the spring planting we have on tap. The field crew has been out planting for several days already this month and they’ve got a solid calendar of planting days ahead of them as far as the eye can see. It takes a lots of work to get all 65 acres planted every year!
