About Us

The farmers (that’s us!) are an energized crew with diverse and converging backgrounds in small-scale sustainable agriculture. Rory O’Dwyer and Kevin O’Dwyer are siblings who grew up in Southeastern Massachusetts.  Kevin now lives with his wife Kate in nearby Norton, and Rory and her partner Alida live in North Easton.

Kevin O’Dwyer grew up in Sharon, MA. He currently lives in Norton, MA. Before starting Langwater Farm, Kevin was the head grower at Wards Berry Farm, a 150 acre diversified fruit and vegetable farm in Sharon. He started working summers there as field crew at age 14, and continued working there through high school and college before being hired as Chief Grower.

Rory O’Dwyer also grew up in Sharon, MA.   She is happy to be back in her home state after living for 3 years in Davis, CA and working for the Growers Collaborative, a nonprofit that buys produce from local family farms and distributes it to schools, restaurants and hospitals. Rory apprenticed for four years on two diversified CSA farms in Massachusetts before starting Farm Girl Farm, a CSA and market farm in North Egremont, MA.

Alida Cantor grew up in Pullman, WA and currently works as a Research Associate with the California Institute for Rural Studies in Davis, CA, a nonprofit focusing on sustainable food systems and rural communities. Before California, Alida apprenticed on several small farms in Massachusetts. She has a Masters degree from UC Davis in Community Development with a focus on sustainable agriculture.

Kate O’Dwyer grew up in North Attleboro, MA.  She also worked for a number of years at Ward’s Berry Farm in the deli and farm stand, and currently works as a social worker handling foster care and adoptions in Providence, Rhode Island.  Kate and Kevin got married in May of 2009.

What a truly great name – Stone Soup, LLC!

You have much to be proud of heading towards the opening of your farm in 2010. Living examples of the moral of the Stone Soup story, “that by working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.”

I would love to interview you for Farm Stories, and I wish you and Langwater Farm good fortune.

    Sincerely,

    Mike Murphy

  • Langwater Farm is a new farm in Easton, MA opening in Spring 2010. The farmers, Rory, Kevin, Kate, and Alida, are working to create a vibrant community farm that will produce vegetables, fruit, flowers, pumpkins, and more. You will be able to find us- and our produce- at our farm stand on Route 138, by joining our CSA, or at farmers markets.
